Active Isolated Stretching

The Aaron Mattes Method of Active Isolated Stretching

An effective treatment for deep and superficial release, restoring proper fascial planes for optimal physiologic function. AIS for no greater than 2 seconds allows the target muscle to optimally lengthen without triggering the protective stretch reflex (and subsequent reciprocal anagomistic muscle contraction) as the isolated muscle achieves state of relaxation.

Maximum beneficial stretch can be accomplished without opposing tension or resulting trauma.
